2018年の10月に稼動した『遊佐蒸溜所』も、そんな新鋭のひとつ。とはいえ、その母体となっているのは、1950年に酒田・飽海(あくみ)地区の日本酒メーカー9社が設立した『株式会社金龍』です。属する9社は、いずれも高い技術と品質を誇る老舗たち。日本で最も権威ある日本酒の品評会「全国新酒鑑評会」で金賞を連続受賞したり、世界最大規模のワイン品評会IWCの「SAKE部門」でトロフィーを受賞したりするなど、その実力は世界的にも認められています。 山形県初のウイスキー蒸留所である遊佐蒸留所の製造現場では、岡田汐音さんと齋藤美帆さんという2人の女性スタッフが中心的な役割を担っています。少数精鋭の若い初心者チームとして抜擢され、ウイスキー造りの核心を支えています。

The “Yuza Distillery,” which began operations in October 2018, is one such up-and-coming distillery. That said, its parent company is “Kinryu Co., Ltd.,” established in 1950 by nine sake brewers in the Akumi district of Sakata. All nine member companies are long-established brewers renowned for their advanced techniques and high quality. Their expertise is recognized worldwide, as evidenced by their consecutive Gold Medal wins at the “National New Sake Appraisal,” Japan’s most prestigious sake competition, and by their trophy win in the “Sake Category” at the IWC, the world’s largest wine competition. At the Yuza Distillery—Yamagata Prefecture’s first whiskey distillery—two female staff members, Shione Okada and Miho Saito, play central roles in the production process. Selected as part of a small, elite team of young newcomers, they are at the heart of the whiskey-making process.
